Bike Doesn't Work - Motor Doesn't Activate

If your bike is not functioning properly with a little trouble shooting it should be possible to determine what the issue is.  If you follow this guide and questions it will narrow down the potential causes.

Throttle & Pedal Assist Don't Work

1) Loose connector between controller and motor

Unplug the connector that connects the motor to controller, clean, reconnect ensuring it is seated all of the way in.

2) Damaged Brake Lever Sensor

The brake lever sensors turn the motor off when you press the brake lever, however, if the sensor has been damaged then it will turn off the motor when you do not want to!  

To check, unplug the electrical connectors that come off the brake lever, they are red colored on the inside.  

• Unplug both the left and right side electrical connectors
• Turn the bike off and back on (with connectors still unplugged)
• Test throttle, if it works then the brake lever is causing the motor to not operate
• Determine which lever is causing the problem by plugging 1 connector in and restarting bike.  If bike does not operate this is the problem lever.

3) Damaged wire harness 

• Check wire harness for damage at folding mechanism (if equipped).  If the wire harness has been damaged then the bike will not operate properly.

4) Faulty PAS Sensor

• A faulty PAS sensor could be confusing the controller, try unplugging the connector that goes to the PAS sensor, restarting the bike, and check to see if the throttle operates the bike.

4) Bad Controller

• Lean the bike on the kickstand so the rear wheel is off the ground.  
• Hold the throttle for about 5-10 seconds
• Check to see if there are any error codes that display on the LCD.

PAS Works, Throttle Does Not

• Make sure your throttle button is turned on if it has an on/off button (In is On)
• Check connection between throttle and harness and make sure it is plugged in
• Check wire harness for damage at folding mechanism (if equipped).  

Warning

If the throttle connector is pushed in without the arrows aligned, the harness pins can be damaged requiring a new throttle & electrical harness.

Throttle Works, PAS Does Not

• Loose connector between PAS sensor & controller. Unplug, check pins, plug back in.  Make sure pin colors match on both sides.
• Loose PAS Sensor - Check and make sure PAS sensor is not loose and turns when crank turns.
• Bad PAS sensor. You may need to replace the sensor every few years if it becomes dirty or damaged.
